There’s nothing like a last minute trip to start off 2018! My sister, who lives in Brooklyn, is a consultant and travels a lot for projects. For this one in particular, she’s been in Dallas for the past month. Last week she discovered she only has a couple of weeks left, so we decided I should head down to spend a weekend with her since I’d never been to Dallas.
If you’ve been reading the blog for a long time (or know me personally), you know my sister and I are extremely close and share a passion for travel. Our travel styles complement each other really well, so we always have a blast.
This trip was so refreshing because we didn’t have a set agenda. It was Alina and I spending a weekend together, talking for hours on the hotel room bed both nights and just enjoying sister time. We’ve been so fortunate to travel a lot together, but it was nice having a relaxing bonding weekend.
On Saturday, we decided to drive out to Waco to visit Magnolia Market. We’re both fans of Chip and Joanna (who isn’t?) and wanted to check it off our bucket list. After all, when would we have a convenient 1.5 hour drive again?! We spent the afternoon there browsing their store and roaming around the courtyard area which was filled with food trucks and little places to lounge and enjoy the beautiful day. We then walked a few blocks farther for a late lunch at a little diner in town. We finished the day by driving back, eating dinner at the hotel, and calling it an early night.
On Sunday, she showed me several neighborhoods of Dallas for shopping and eating — Deep Ellum (her favorite), Greenville (my favorite), Knox/McKinney, and ate brunch at Stirr. Going to Pecan Lodge for Texas Barbecue is still on my bucket list, but we were starving and the line was down the block!
We drove from downtown straight to the airport to drop me off. It was too short, but a perfect sisters weekend nonetheless!
